Whether or not you attempt to apply for government or aided primary schools, you should pay attention to the location of your community. During phase 2 of the primary one admission system, the availability of schools is greatly affected by the district you live in. Although applying to a private school or an English Schools Foundation school is not affected by the “School Net” in the government central allocation scheme, most private schools will still take into consideration of where the students live.
Hong Kong Island District
There are five School Nets which covered Hong Kong island and the School Nets are numbered 11, 12, 14, 16 and 18. Among these, numbers 11, 12 and 14 are most favoured by parents.
Top notch schools – School Net 11
Location: Central, Sheung Wan, Sai Ying Pun, Shek Tong Tsui, Kennedy Town, The Peak
This is one of the largest and the most popular School Nets for parents. It houses 16 top quality single gender primary schools.
There are only a few primary schools at The Peak, but the prestigious English Schools Foundation is particularly well known and has and has grown its reputation over the past century. Some even think that it is the representative school for international primary schools in Hong Kong. One of my clients who currently lives on The Peak shared her own experience with me, "it only takes a few minutes on foot, so it's really convenient for my children to go to and from the school."
